January 17th 2010
Here is how your family can reach out to Haiti through Apex UMC:
We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life an devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. Many of you are looking to help the people of Haiti, below are several options for your donations. Other kinds of relief may be needed but so far communication is too sparse to know exactly what would be best. It’s clear that much rebuilding will be needed, and in the meantime, the following items are critical:

Basic Needs: blankets, sheets, towels, wash clothes, non-perishable food

Health Kits: 1 hand towel (15”x25” up to 17”x27”), 1 wash cloth, 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket sized), 1 nail file or fingernail clipper (no emery boards or toenail clippers), 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. or up), 1 toothbrush (single brush only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes), 1 large tube of toothpaste, 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages. All of the health kit items should be placed inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag. No money, notes, religious or political literature, or other items should be placed in the kits.

Donations for relief to Haiti can be made payable to Apex UMC using advance #418325 in the memo line.

Beginning January 20, there will be a truck parked on the AUMC campus marked Haiti donations. Place your donations in the truck. The truck will leave Thursday morning (January 21) and deliver supplies to the MERCI Center in Goldsboro. As soon as we get clearance from the Haitian government, we will be taking work teams.

Thanks in advance for all your help and prayers!
